David Celebrating The First Win Of 2012

 The Wounded Warriors 100

The race event was scheduled to be twin 50 lap features, but with the weather not cooperating, the track officials decided to shorten the night’s events in order to get the whole night of racing in. They changed the order of everything and changed the race to be a 100 lap event.

Practice

David went out for the first round of practice and he felt that the car was still acting like it did on opening night, it was way too tight in the corners and that type of problem will only get worse if you don’t adjust the car. David went out for the next two practices and each time we made adjustments that helped the car. He was 2nd quickest on the speed chart.

Qualifying

When it came time to qualify Ole Lady Luck bit us again, While David turned in some very good laps, the track timing device malfunctioned and his times didn’t count. The track officials decided that they would let us try again only this time David only got one lap, his lap time was 5th quickest. With the invert David would be starting outside pole in 2nd spot.

Taking The Lead On The First Lap

Race

On the start of the race David had an awesome start and took the lead coming off of turn two. Shortly after that the caution came out but since David had completed a lap he would restart the race in first. David was able to maintain the lead over the second place car through a few cautions and a red flag near the half-way point of the 100 lapper. After the red flag on the next restart David just drove steady laps as the cars behind him fought for position. This worked in David’s favor as he stretched his lead out and didn’t have to run his car too hard. As the laps unfolded David’s car seemed to get better and as positions changed behind him and the second place car was looking pretty fast. That’s when we told David it was time to see what he had left in the car, He started running harder and managed to pull away over second spot by about a straight away. David ended up winning by just under two seconds over second place, leading all 100 laps. This marked David’s first win of the 2012 season. David is currently the point leader at ODS but he won’t be racing a full season there so we are more concerned with the NASCAR Whelen All American Series national points. We will keep you updated on the national points as they come out.
