Practice
The day started out with an engine misfire on the first lap of practice, We immediately had David pull in to the pits and the team went to work. We felt that the misfire was being cause by some sort of fuel problem. The guys took the carburetor off and cleaned it up and we replaced the metering block and bolted the carburetor back on we also changed the spark plugs to be safe. David headed out for the second round of practice and the misfire was still there. Once again he pulled in to the pits quickly and the team went back to work. We ended up replacing the whole carburetor, we also changed the spark plugs again. The misfire seemed to be gone during the final practice, so we prepped the car for qualifying.
Qualifying
David was the next to the last car to go out for qualifying, his first lap put him 7th quickest and he was trying to get a little more out of the car, when he entered turn one to hard and messed up his second lap. While David was a little disappointed he was not to upset because with the invert and the fact that we won last week he would have been starting 6th, so the extra effort only cost him one spot and the inside row is usually better then the outside row on the start of the race.
100 Lap Race
On the start of the race heading in to turn one a couple of cars tangled in front of David, he managed to miss the wreck. the track red flagged the race to allow the cars involved to fix their cars and return to the race. On the next restart there was another incident and once again David missed the wreck and once again the track red flagged the race to allow the cars involved to work on their car and return to the race. This time the car involved in the wreck was given his spot back and he restarted in front of David. Finally on the next restart everything went better. Once all the cars made it through turn one the racing became very fun to watch. On the second or third lap after the restart David radioed in and told us the engine misfire was back. This was not good news, but David managed to drive the car and kept himself in the race, he got up as high as 3rd with an ill-running engine but at the end he had to settle for 4th place. It was a long 100 lap race for David but he drove his heart out and still got a top five finish. This finish also helped him expand his point lead at ODS, he now holds a 19 point lead over 2nd place.
Engine Problems
We worked hard on the car Saturday night after the races and determined that we would not be able to get the car fixed in time to go to the Monday race at Shenandoah Speedway. The guys in the shop will be working hard to get the car fixed and running right during the week and we will be ready for next Saturday’s race at ODS. Please watch our web-site for an update to the schedule for when we will make up this race.
