Welcome To Motor Mile Speedway

David and the Robert Bruce Racing team went to Motor Mile Speedway in Radford Va. for a 150 lap race last Saturday night. Motor Mile speedway has produced the NASCAR Whelen All American Series National Champion several times over the years. The competition there is very intense and they usually have a lot of cars on hand for each of their divisions. We picked this track to see how we stack up against some of the best in the business.

David's Race Day Preparations

We started out the first practice with a good handling car, the car just bottomed out a few times. We raised the car up between the two rounds of practice. When David hit the track for the second round the car was better as far as bottoming out but now there was a flutter in the carburetor. David pulled the car in and the team went to work on changing the carburetor. Unfortunately they couldn’t get it done in time to get back out and test it. So he we were again heading in to qualifying without knowing what we had for David to work with.

David went out for qualifying and the car was pretty fast but the extra speed made the car bottom out again, that slowed the car some and his effort was only good enough for 2oth out of 22 cars. Not what we were hoping for, it made it so we had to dig out of a hole again. It has been a rough few weeks with small problems messing us up each week.

Waiting For Pre-Race Tech

David Started the 150 lap feature from the 20th spot, our goal was to stay out of trouble early and then start picking off spots as the race went on. Our regular spotter couldn’t make the race so I (dad) had to spot, it’s a very hard job and it’s even harder when it’s your kid out there. On the start of the race David was running side by side and I hadn’t looked far enough in front of him, I didn’t see the wreck that was happening. Fortunately for me David is one of those drivers that is watching way out in front of himself. He was able to miss the wreck that blocked most of the track. There ended up being six cars in the wreck and David just squeaked by. On the restart the plan was still the same, be careful and pace ourselves. It took another half of a lap before the next wreck, this time David got slowed down but the car behind him didn’t, he hit David square in the back and sent him sliding. David did a great job not hitting anything else and the track determined that he was not part of the wreck he was caught up in avoiding it and he got his spot back in the lineup. On the next restart it seemed as though everyone had settled down some and the race was on, David stuck to the plan and started working his way forward. By lap 35 he was in 8th spot and as the race went on he worked his way up to 5th place by the halfway point of the race. After the second wreck the race went all the way to lap 141 before the next caution. When the caution came out David was still in 5th and this closed the top five cars up for the restart. At this point these five cars were the only cars on the lead lap so it made for a 5 car shoot out for the win. On the final start of the race there were eight laps left and the two leaders ran side by side with the third place car diving inside of them on several occasions making it pretty interesting to watch but the 4th place car and David were unable to get in the action and had to chase them hoping for them to mess up and leave room for us to slip by, that didn’t happen and the finish was tight up front and David brought it home 5th. All in all a pretty good night, the car was in one piece and David had a top five finish at one of the toughest tracks to race at.

Late Night At Motor Mile After Tech

Come on out to the track and see us in the Circle K/On The Run, GazZu Energy, Redline Power Rush Shots, Sheehy Auto Stores NASCAR Late Model as we take on some of the toughest competition out there.
