From Last To First , David Polenz Slices His Way Through The Field To Win In His Debut At Shenandoah Speedway
Shenandoah Speedway
Debut
Practice
David came into Shenandoah Speedway in his 33 Moon Racing
prepared Late Model for the first time in his career. Back in “Ol’ Wilson”, the racecar
hes been racing since the beginning of his Late Model career, and built in
1999, David felt more confident then ever to go get a victory in the 100 lap
feature. Friday and Saturday morning
David took the Circle K machine many times around the asphalt oval, picking up
speeds each time on the track. Saturday
afternoon was the first officially timed practice and David put up fast time in
both session, adding to his confidence for the main event.
Qualifying
Feeling good about qualifying David took to the track, and
laid down two solid laps early in the session.
He held on to the pole until the last car hit the track and knocked off
his fast lap by .003 of a second. It didnt hurt him too bad being that they inverted the entire field for the main event and he would start from 2nd to last on the tail of the field
The 100 Lap Feature!!
David started at the tail end of the field because of the
invert. He was disappointed in one way but also knew he had a car to beat, and
wanted to give the fans a show. The
green flag flew and immediately cars collided down the front stretch before
even reaching the start finish line. By
the time they reach turn 2 the caution was out for the first time. The next
green flag flew and they went multiple laps, David passed and battled side by
side with many different cars as the entire field was double file. There was contact all the way threw the
field, making it very exciting until there was a one car spin in the front of
field. David drove threw a wreck for the
second time, and the caution flew again.
With caution laps counting the laps were ticking quick, by lap 35 only
10 laps were raced during green flag.
Polenz continued to march his way to the front after the green flag, he
picked off cars and chased down the leader, and took the lead on lap 49. He drove from last to first in 24 green flag
laps. Finally there was a long green
flag run, where David and the second place car battled bumper to bumper, but
David held off every charge and pulled away late in the run. With near 11 laps
to go, 2nd place was spun out near a straightaway behind David by the 3rd place
driver. That put the #29 car on the
outside of David for the restart. They
drove into turn one battling it hard and both made contact, David and the #29
slid sideways similar to a drift competition for the entire corner beating on
each others doors to keep from wrecking,
David slammed the throttle and drove away sideways in the lead. Davids #33 On the Run car had the toe knocked
out considerably and the right side of the body pushed in to the frame. There
was once again another caution which brought on one of two green white
checkered finishes. David had an awesome
restart on the first one only to have his lead diminished by another immediate
caution. The second
green-white-checkered the outside 2nd place car had a better start. David and him battled and with the white flag
flying they drove in equal door to door.
The third place car bumped David on the inside, getting him sideways and
keeping him from closing the door on second.
He drove into turn 3 harder than ever and drove the wheels off of it to
take home the win by less then a car length in a photo finish!
David will be back racing at the
Southern National
Motorsports Park this weekend in the Moon Racing owned Circle K/On the Run,
Redline Power Rush, Gazzu Energy #33.
