The night was to benefit IAVA Iraq Afghanistan Veterans of
America, All Veterans got in free by showing their military ID. There were more
than 200 military people that came to enjoy the afternoon and evening at Old
Dominion Speedway. During the afternoon there was a hospitality tent set-up
with food and plenty of GazZu Energy drinks, Sun Drop soda and Miller High Life
beer for them to enjoy. While in the hospitality tent they were treated to live
music by Virginia Blend, an awesome local band. At 5pm the veterans went to the
bleachers to enjoy the nights racing events. In between the 1st and 2nd races
the band moved to the infield to prepare for the post-race party. At the
conclusion of all of the racing the band began to play and the pit party was
on. They played beyond the tracks curfew and most of the fans and veterans
stayed until the end. By the time the track was able to turn off the lights it
was nearly 1am. I can’t speak for everyone, but I know our team had a blast and
enjoyed meeting several of the veterans and talking with them. A special thanks
needs to go out to Joe Murphy, Steve Britt and all of the track personnel and
the Miller High Life people for all of their hard work pulling off this awesome
and very successful event which raised $1,133 to go to the IAVA. David and his
whole team were very proud to be able to participate and be a part of this
event.

Qualifying

After three rounds of practice it was time for qualifying.
Just three cars in to qualifying, one of the cars had something go wrong and dumped oil all
the way around the track. After a half hour or so the track crew got the track
cleaned up and qualifying started again. We can’t say for sure, but after that
the rest of the cars were not able to turn laps as quick as they did in
practice. The same was true for us, and the best we could do was seventh
quickest. That left us on the outside of the invert for the second week in a
row and not where we wanted to be for this special event sponsored by On The
Run. We would just have to make the best of it and we had 150 laps to find the
way to the front.

Military Appreciation 150

Just before the start of the Late Model race the track does
what is called the GazZu Stretch and normally they play a recording of
“Born To Run”, but since The Virginia Blend was on hand, they played
the song live from the infield as the Late Models lined up for the 150 lap main
event. As soon as the song was done the cars started the warm-up laps and got
ready for the start. On the start of the race David was being cautious and kind
of laid back just a little to see what some of the cars up front were going to
do. The race settled out quickly and it was time for David to start making his
way forward. By lap twenty he was in fifth place and pressuring the fourth
place car. The caution flew for the first time for a spin after some contact
between a few cars. After that the race got restarted everyone seemed to be
taking their time and not getting too crazy, that made for some awesome racing
all the way through the pack. David was being patient and was working his way
forward, by lap fifty he was in third and by lap eighty he was in second. Even
though there were a few more cautions, David never really had enough to make
the pass for the lead. The race had one last caution and was restarted for a
green white checkered finish. David gave it all he had but just couldn’t quite
make the pass and he settled for second place. With the extra money that On The
Run and Miller High Life put up, it turned in to being a pretty good payday.
The second place finish was better than the point leader who, by the way,
started on the pole, David was able to gain a few more points on him and now
trails by just eleven points.

Thanks Miller High Life and On The Run

That’s right an additional $1,000 on top of the normal payout for second place, thanks On The Run and Miller High Life.

All of the fans gather around the car as we wait for the tech guys to tell us what they are going to tech.

David Polenz and the whole Polenz Motorsports team want to
send out a special thanks to all of our military/veterans for all that they do
so that we can have the freedom to do what we do.

Thank You So Much!
