Prince William County, Va. – David Polenz pulled off his first win of the season in a 100-lap Late Model feature Saturday night at Old Dominion Speedway. Polenz started on the pole and led every lap in the 15-car field.
“It feels like it’s been a long time since we won,” Polenz said. “It was pretty awesome to win. The car was the best it’s felt in a long time.”
Points leader Adam Brenner, who started fourth after qualifying fifth, took home second. Brenner got around Doug Liberman in lap 70 for the spot.
“The car was fantastic,” Brenner said. “It was a pretty satisfying race. We didn’t ding anything up and didn’t ding on anybody. It was a good night.”
Liberman was third. He started third and passed Roger Austin Jr. for second early before Brenner got around him.
Mike Southard, who started mid-pack, took home fourth, his best finish of the season. Rookie Brandon Brown was fifth. And two time champion Willard Lawrence finished 12th after getting together with Ray Terczak.
In Legends, Rette Causey motored to his second win of the season. Causey got around Ryan Polenz on lap 17 for the lead.
Polenz, who had passed Scotty Gore for the lead on lap 11 after starting third, stayed on Causey’s bumper but backed off in final laps after almost spinning. He finished second.
“We had a pretty good run,” Polenz said. “The car felt the greatest it has in a while. I did the best I could to try to catch Causey but him and me were equal.”
Gore, who started on the pole, was third. Steve Ward finished fourth after starting fourth. Jeff Harms, who started second, was fifth. Tyler Hughes lost the points lead after his gear shift stuck early in the race and he had to park his car.
In U-Cars, two time champion Bryan Fox grabbed his first victory of the season. Fox passed Steve Brady in the last lap after the two ran side-by-side for almost two laps. Brady, who started on the pole, was second.
“I finally got one this season,” said Fox, who was third in points before the race. “It feels awesome to win, especially since this is the last weekend with the old car.”
Billy Ingle, who started third, finished third. Morgan Duncan was fourth and Eddie Chewing was fifth. Craig Oglevee had to pit after getting collected in a wreck with Bert Brasz and Jerry Deem, who barrel-rolled down the track. Rescue workers had to cut Deem from the car and he was airlifted to the hospital. His condition was unclear.
“I don’t know how the wreck happened,” Oglevee said. “The two of them got together in front of me and I got tangled up with them. Deem flipped a couple of times.”
In Mini Modifieds, points leader Dave Daniels rolled to his third win of the year. Daniels started third and took the lead in lap three from Pete Green. Mike Carte snagged second after starting fourth. Keith Riley was third. Green, who started second, was fourth, and Kevin Davis was fifth.
In Mid-Atlantic Street Stocks, Dave Nobles, who started fifth, notched his first win of the year. Phil Kenney, who started on the pole, was second. Mike Watson was third. And Mark Averi, who started third, was fourth. Sheryl Carls started fourth and finished fifth.
