David has 13 years experience in racing. He started in a Pee-Wee Go-Kart at age 6 and raced in that division for two years. David was very successful with six wins, 28 2nd place finishes and 13 3rd place finishes in his two seasons. Then David moved up to the rookie purple division and into a full size Go-Kart; David also had a lot of success in that division. David had 12 wins, 23 2nd place finishes and 18 3rd place finishes in his two seasons.
Looking for something more challenging, we moved David into Quarter Midget Racing. He had much success in his four seasons of Quarter Midget racing as well; David had 24 wins, 15 2nd place finishes and 24 3rd place finishes. He only finished outside the top three, 3 times. David also captured the Heavy 160 Championship at the West End Quarter Midget Assc. in 2005.
The 2006 season was a very successful racing season. David was the “Rookie of the Year” at the Chemung Speedrome in New York and finished 5th in the Series Points. He also raced in some national events at Old Dominion Speedway in VA, in the three events he finished 3rd, 7th and 9th. After his 3rd place finish at Old Dominion David was offered a ride with Austin Legends of Virginia.
The 2007 season was an awesome year for David. He ran a full schedule at Old Dominion Speedway in the Austin Legends #3. David also competed in several other races at various tracks in the Polenz Motorsports #3. David had 28 starts with 4 feature wins, 8 Semi-pro wins, 20 top fives, 28 top tens, he finished 2nd in Points at Old Dominion Speedway, 5th in points at Spencer Speedway, 2nd in the INEX New Jersey State Points and 29th in the INEX National Points.
The 2008 season was another outstanding year for David. He ran a full schedule at Old Dominion Speedway in the Austin Legends #3 and also competed in several other races at various tracks in the Polenz Motorsports #3. David’s season at Old Dominion Speedway was outstanding, winning 7 out of 13 races, finishing in the top five in all 13 races and ending the season with an average finish of 2nd place. Overall, David had 26 oval track starts with 9 feature wins, 20 top fives, 24 top tens. He won the Legends Points Championship at Old Dominion Speedway, he won the INEX Pro Legends New Jersey State Championship and finished 10th in the INEX Pro Legends National Point Standings.
The 2009 season proved to be the toughest season for David so far. He moved from the Legends cars up to the NASCAR Late Models at Old Dominion Speedway. With a rocky start to the season, blowing and engine opening night and having a wreck a few weeks later David was 18th in the points 4 weeks into the 22 race season. David persevered and proved he was up to the task. Going on a top five finishing streak and picking up 4 wins including the ODS “The Big One” (being the 1st rookie to ever do so) David made his way to 2nd in the final point standings. All told David collected 4 wins, 15 top 5’s and 19 top 10’s in the season that was shortened to 21 races due to rain. With those kind of numbers put up by David, he was named the Old Dominion Speedway Rookie of the Year and the NASCAR Late Model Virginia State Rookie of the Year.
The 2010 season was an up and down season for David, even with the consistency of having 17 top 5 finishes in 20 starts there were many difficulties for him and the team. From early season electrical problems to mid season wrecks and a radiator failure in the next to the last race it was a tough year. David and his team bounced back on every occasion and turned bad nights into good finishes. Sitting 2nd in the points the entire season he was as close as 6 points to the leader and as far as 60 behind, but with his never give up attitude driving the team he managed to finish 2nd in points for the second year in a row. His record for the year was 17 top 5 finishes 18 top 10 finishes and only 1 DNF the night the radiator failed not bad for a 20 race season.
David and the whole team headed in to the 2011 season on a high note after landing new sponsorship. For the 2011 season David would be sporting the colors of the new primary sponsor GAZZU Energy, On The Run and Sun Drop Citrus Soda. We started out the season with a little tough luck the first week, with David leading the season opener by a half of a lap we had a right rear wheel crack and David got a flat. The opening night finish turned out to be the only finish outside of the top 10 all year. From that point on David and the team put together a string of top 5 finishes that would have him leading the points by the end of June. David had another tough night finishing 9th but from that point on David and the team never finished outside of the top 5. At one point they put together nine top two’s in a row with four wins mixed in. By the end of the season David and the gang amassed 4 wins, 16 top 5’s and 17 top 10’s in just 18 starts. The season ended with David winning the 2011 NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Championship at Old Dominion Speedway, fulfilling a life time dream of being a NASCAR Champion.
Now with the renewed contracts from the sponsors inhand and a new look to the team car, David and the gang head in to the
2012 season with high hopes. This year On The Run and GazZu Energy have been Joined by Circle K and Redline Power Rush Shots as primary sponsors on the David Polenz Racing NASCAR Late Model. Together the team and sponsors have put together a traveling race schedule that will have David racing about 10 races at Old Dominion Speedway and about 10 other races at other tracks. David and the team will be racing in the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown and will also be attending races at South Boston Speedway, Motor Mile Speedway, Martinsville Speedway and Myrtle Beach Speedway. The deal with the sponsorship group will allow David and the sposors to reach out to a bigger market area than last year. Go to the schedule page of our web-site and check out the schedule, we hope to see you at the track.
