Even with missing three races, after David’s 2nd place finish, he takes home 2nd in ODS Points:

 Practice:

David hit the track in practice knowing he had to be at the top of his game to make an incredible comeback to win the title. The first two sessions, David decided the car was just a tad tight, so crew chief Bob Moon and him made an adjustment that picked them up a tenth of a second before qualifying.

Qualifying:

22 cars lined up to determine the starting order for the 2012 “Big One”.  David was at a disadvantage, being the second car on track to qualify after pulling the #3 pill.  Its a disadvantage because over time the track, and air temperature cools down, making the later cars faster.  Although he was second out, he put down his 3rd best ODS lap time of the year, and qualified a strong 5th place.  With last weeks win, he had to start 6th accord to the ODS points invert rule.

Race:

The green flag dropped on the double points 200 lap, $3,000 to win event, the steaks were high, but David and the 33 Redline Power Rush, On the Run, Circle K, Gazzu Energy machine was ready to rock.  David made his hard charge from sixth, driving up to fourth by the end of lap 2.  David eventually passed teammate and car maintainer Dave Moon for the third position where he ran for nearly 20 laps.  As lap traffic became a issue, a lap car cut off David while going for 2nd in turn losing 3rd to Dave Moon.  Fortunately for David being further back from the lead was a good thing when only a few laps later, a wreck occurred in turn two, taking out the leader.  David finished the first 100 lap segment in third, saving tires for the last 100 lap duel for the big prize.  David made his way eventually into 2nd around lap 120, methodically marching to the front while saving tires.   David knew he had something for the leader when he dropped the hammer around lap 150.  They dueled it out for the top spot, and David had made  several runs only to be out powered into the next corner.  When David was finally in position entering the corner, the caution flew once again.  The nature of David’s Xtreme Graphics 33 machine is it takes a good ten laps before it really comes to life.  Every time David would reel the leader back in, the caution would come out just to cool his tires off and ruin his run.  As many of the restarts were controversial, Polenz stuck through it all to come down to a green-white-checkered finish.  He drove as hard as he could and left nothing on the table, but even with a epic move to put him in position to win, he could not quite get the last car length he needed.  David took home 2nd place, and made up 12 of the 24 points he needed to win the championship, leaving him to settle with 2nd in the points standings also.  David thanked his sponsors Redline, On the Run/Circle K, Gazzu, Hunt Brothers Pizza, Sheehy Nissan, Xtreme Graphics, Everitt Equipment, Mt Salem Electric, Real Country, Napa, County Line Fuel, Race to Volunteer, JWS Cycles and Moon Racing for help towards another great season!  Although he was upset he didn’t win the title, he took no shame in second place, considering most teams would never be in that position missing that many races.  David also mentioned his Special Thank You’s to his fans, family, the Lawrence Family, Bruce and Debbie Hirt, and all the people who supported him through out 2012.  That concludes the scheduled race season, stay tuned for more upcoming events and races!

Must give a big Congrats to Ryan Polenz on your 2012 Legends Championship!!
